“Captain!” I stare at her for a moment. I have never seen her so scared before in my life. The legendary captain, the one who has made perilous journeys all around the entire world. The one who has stories written about her and who always has crowds gathered for her ship to dock. I can hear my voice quivering as I spoke. “I don’t know how much longer she can hold on. We’re sinking. And fast. She’s taking on too much water.” I can see the water level rising out of the small window. Emeryx takes a deep breath and turns to look at me.
“I need you to do something for me. I need you to run down the service hallway across the starboard side. Go as fast as you can, help any survivors. I’ll keep her afloat for as long as I can.”
“But, Captain—”
“Just go! As soon as you get out, don’t look back.” She makes a gesturing motion with her hand, as if trying to get me to move just by sheer willpower.
“But what about you, Captain?”
“Salia. Please.” Her eyes are full of desperation as she speaks. The water is starting to leak under the door. We are out of time.
“I’ll come back for you. I promise.” I say, my voice quivering.
“Just go.” She pleads. I start to move, but I pause at the doorway and turn.
“Captain.” I salute, praying desperately that it won’t be the last time that I say that. Emeryx looks up from the helm long enough to respond with a brief nod.
“Sailor.”
I run.
